This is about a man who takes recreational drugs to the point where he doesn't notice that he's slowly losing everything he loves.
As a reminder to us, the observer, the last vestiges of normal family life is represented by his daughter's Rag Doll Clown, left behind, but still propped up in the corner of the room; a symbol of his guilt.

Adam had come up with the riff years before. I wrote the lyrics just about as quickly as you could read them.
